PLM to accelerate time-to-market
LifeScan Scotland, a market leader in making blood glucose monitors for diabetics, has selected MatrixOne's PLM to accelerate product development and time-to-market.
LifeScan Scotland, a market leader in making blood glucose monitors for diabetics, has selected MatrixOne's PLM to accelerate product development and time-to-market.
MatrixOne, a leading provider of collaborative product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions for the value chain, has announced that LifeScan Scotland, a market leader in making blood glucose monitors for diabetics, has selected MatrixOne's product lifecycle management (PLM) solution to accelerate product development and time-to-market.
LifeScan Scotland is a subsidiary of LifeScan, a Johnson and Johnson company.
MatrixOne's PLM environment provides a secure, collaborative product development environment that will streamline product design and development across LifeScan Scotland's global operations, enabling the company to quickly and cost-effectively bring new products to market.
The deployment was prompted by the results of a Johnson and Johnson study into the key product lifecycle solutions in the market.
"Using MatrixOne's PLM tools, we believe we can cut our product development cycle by as much as 20%," said Michael Crowe, managing director, LifeScan Scotland.
"In addition, we can drive improved customer satisfaction, integrate our suppliers into the development process, improve our visibility to our design centers throughout the world, and have easy access to all vital product information." "Historically we relied on a standard document management system, which was good at capturing information, but not good at making that information available for reuse throughout the lifecycle of the product," said Crowe.
"We rely on the ability to reuse the design and information we have developed around our core technology platforms in order to expand our portfolio of new products.
A standard document management system just didn't allow us to access this information in an effective way." MatrixOne's PLM deployment at LifeScan also incorporates MatrixOne Program Central, an application which enables companies that rely on extensive collaboration across global value chains of employees, customers, suppliers and partners to efficiently manage complex programs and projects.
This application provides management with real-time visibility into a project's status in terms of process, costs and benefits.
"The MatrixOne Program Central module was a decisive factor in our decision to select MatrixOne," added Crowe.
"Our company's design centers are eight time zones apart, with two main design centers and a number of our suppliers located in the Far East.
Having a tool that integrates the workflow process on a global scale was critical for us to keep those groups collaborating efficiently and effectively as well as involving our key suppliers in the process." The ability of MatrixOne's solution to facilitate regulatory compliance was another key factor in its selection.
"As a regulated industry, LifeScan Scotland must ensure compliance throughout the entire design and manufacturing process," said Crowe.
"By enabling a single view of the product lifecycle process, MatrixOne's solution ensures that we can keep our engineering, manufacturing, quality and materials departments synchronised on new or changing product information, resulting in improved consistency, quality and volume, and quick compliance with regulatory requirements." "LifeScan Scotland understands that the challenges of efficiently bringing new products to market are increasing each day," said Andy Kofoid, vice president of EMEA for MatrixOne.
"The selection of MatrixOne as the backbone of their product development efforts will help the company address these challenges in order to increase their competitive advantage and grow market share through continued product leadership and innovation." * About LifeScan - LifeScan, a leading maker of blood glucose monitoring products, is dedicated to creating a world without limits for people with diabetes.
