John Neale filling compound still performs

A John Neale product story

John Neale Resin WS8, a low-cost tube and architectural section filling compound, continues to perform in a variety of applications.

Metal-fusible alloys are traditionally used for filling architectural sections prior to bending to maintain the dimensions of the section.

These fusible alloys are very expensive due to high cost per kilo and high density.

They also make sections extremely heavy, which often means equipment needs to be designed to cope with the significant extra mass.

Resin WS8 costs less per kilo and has a low density, so all bending can be carried out in-house rather than contracted out.

It can be used on steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other metal sections and tubes.

For tighter bends, a fibre-reinforced resin is available.

Resin WS8 is melted prior to pouring into the section or tube, which is bunged at one end.

The resin pours easily into the section without setting and plugging the tube half-way down - it does this even with small-diameter sections and tubes.

The resin is allowed to solidify by cooling either naturally, which can take up to 24 hours for large sections, or by quenching or forcing with cold water.

Care should be taken when using water that it does not contact the resin, as it will dissolve it.

Bending is carried out when the resin has solidified.

Removal of the resin can be easily carried out by playing a cool flame over the surface of the section, after which the bulk of the resin comes out.

It can be used for tube, section and sacrificial bending, where the item to be bent is held in a section which is then filled with resin.

It has the additional benefit of being easily welded through, and easily removed with a water rinse.
