Reliability in management and production
control

The first US installation of HRS's Jobshop software is the result of one satisfied customer looking for the same reliability in its management and production control systems.

The first US installation of HRS's Jobshop software is the result of one satisfied customer looking for the same reliability in its management and production control systems for a new business facility in South Carolina Elite Electronic Systems, based in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, has been using Jobshop since 2002 when the company was sourcing an MRP/scheduling system to replace an ageing DOS-based set-up

Selected by the contract electronics manufacturer for its ability to deliver full traceability of all manufacturing and purchased elements, the company purchased another Jobshop system for its US operation, even though at that stage, the business only existed on paper: it had no registered address, no employees, no plant - in fact, no assets at all.

"This was the first purchase order we placed on the basis that until the system was up and running, the invoice could not be processed and HRS Jobshop could not be paid," says vice president Jonathan Balfour.

It was against this backdrop that at the beginning of April 2006 senior programmer Derek Paul and consultant Mark Peberdy arrived at Elite's Winnsboro site to install the Jobshop system.

Basically the same as the one installed at the Enniskillen factory, it nevertheless had to be adapted to work with US tax/date formats and linked to a US accounting system; further enhancements are planned for the future.

Now in full production, Elite ES is manufacturing 30 control cabinets per day, with plans to double output before the end of this year and further increases throughout 2007.

"Setting up shop in the US has proved a steep learning curve for us," explains Balfour.

"A business with tremendous potential, as with all new ventures, the company has had its share of problems to solve on a daily basis.

Like the Jobshop system, we have demonstrated that we too can travel across the Atlantic and successfully meet fresh challenges." The flexibility of Jobshop's internet-based GoToA assistTM support system has proved invaluable to the fledgling company.

Elite and HRS Jobshop both log onto GoTo; the user permits HRS Jobshop to view what he/she is doing on his own PC and if necessary, take control of it remotely.

It is also possible to transfer data in both directions and talk online throughout the process.

"Along with Elite in Northern Ireland, we are very keen to see the South Carolina business succeed and so are actively supporting the company through the initial stages of this venture," comments Peberdy. Request a free brochure from Jobshop ...

"Jobshop's ability to deliver high functionality is helping them to significantly improve responsiveness and reduce manufacturing lead times.".
