Kardon Kontracts is introducing contract rental of aerial work platforms from as little as £60 per week.

Recent developments in health and safety regulations have required all companies to review how people 'work at a height' within their premises but, as you will probably already know, the Work at Height Regulations (WAHR) apply to all work at height where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury They place duties on employers, the self-employed, and any person that controls the work of others to the extent of their control (for example facilities managers or building owners who may contract others to work at height)

One of the traditionally used methods has been using a working platform on a fork lift truck.

It has been recognised by the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) that a conventional fork lift truck fitted with a working platform will not provide the same level of safety as purpose-built equipment such as an aerial work platform (AWP).

This is leading to the requirement for an AWP 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Most of the time an aerial work platform is rented in to perform a specific job.

But what happens the rest of the time? At 4am? or on a Sunday afternoon? - Do you have the ability to work safely at a height within the guidelines all of the time? The safety aspects involved in working at a height for three minutes are, in some respects, no less than for three hours.

Traditionally machines have been rented for specific applications on a long-term rental (but on a week-by-week basis) or equipment has been purchased requiring capital expenditure, a maintenance contract, regular certification by a 'competent person', breakdown cover and training for all operators, and this all backed up with physical documentation proving that this has been done.

Now there is an alternative that was been driven by the market - contract rental.

This is not just the supply of a machine, it also encompasses your health and safety responsibilities too.

Gordon McGruer of Kardon Kontracts has extensive experience in bringing contract rental to a variety of market places.

He has been involved in the MEWP industry since 1989 in the provision of finance, consultancy to rental companies and he is now focusing Kardon Kontracts on the delivery of contract rental to this particular market place.

"Having provided finance to other industries and other parts of the construction industry I have seen the move from pure rental through to contract rental where the machine is available continuously.

"Personally I see this as the time that the aerial work platform market is going through the same evolution".

Kardon Kontracts provide customers with contract rental starting with a brand new tailor-made machine, including accessories where these are identified as beneficial additions at the point of site survey to ensure the right machine and the right specifications to suit the exact working environment; customers can even personalise the equipment further by having the machine painted in specific colours.

In addition, Kardon Kontracts also includes all routine servicing, six-monthly inspections and full breakdown cover to include parts and labour, thereby ensuring customers have the highest quality support direct from the world-leading manufacturers.

Another important element to consider is that all operators can be trained to internationally recognised standards.

Each element is fully documented by the provider and is available for audit purposes.

Such packages start from under £60 per week.
