'Store-to-saw' systems report 60% gains
'Cassette' storage and combined 'store-to-saw' systems have brought dramatic 60% improvement in machine processing efficiencies and significant gains in production and logistics.
Dramatic 60% improvement in some overall machine processing efficiencies and significant gains in overall production and logistics are reported, through the unique 'cassette' storage and combined store-to-saw technologies of Remmert and Kaltenbach.
Having combined their respective expertise for many years, the collaborative work of Remmert and Kaltenbach has developed what they believe is the ultimate level of optimised integration between saw and/or other machine centres, long material store and associated logistics.
The two companies have formed an even stronger alliance to provide mutual sales and service support across Europe where projects need their combined technologies.
Remmert have perfected their unique cassette storage technology, which enables far greater flexibility in stocked material mix, selection and onward processing speeds, plus the significant bonus of a far smaller floor-space footprint, with increased capacity.
It is also infinitely quicker and more versatile than typical single-bar storage systems.
Stored material length of 6.5m is standard but up to 15m is possible, depending on system type.
The combined Remmert and Kaltenbach material store, picking, cut-to-length and logistics technologies are claimed to achieve dramatic savings in facility space, process time, flexibility and management control.
The cassettes are essentially open topped, open-ended box sections that expose the stocked material.
A single larger system can contain several hundred cassettes.
A cassette, having been removed automatically by a traversing cradle, is transferred to an automated picking gantry that sits alongside the saws input magazine.
The picker removes the required material from the cassette, selecting an individual bar from any one of the upper surface stock positions, and then transports it onto the saws automatic input magazine.
A typical Kaltenbach saw arrangement, integrated with Remmert storage technology could include a circular saw and bandsawing machine.
The circular saw being for mid-to-soft metals, below 150mm diameter, with the bandsaw suiting all metals, particularly ultra-hard materials.
A wide range of saw/store combinations is available, from single-saw to several machines.
The saws NC system auto-sets the cutting length, batch quantity and optimum use/minimum material waste, then cuts the material and outputs it onto a roller way or auto-sorts into bins for onward processing.
Remmert cassette storage systems are available in a number of arrangements to suit material capacity, demand, available space and capital costs.
Storage heights of up to 25m, and individual cassette loading of 6 tonnes are available.
Storage capacity improvement of 500% is reported as typical, whilst reducing original floor-space taken and at the same time improving line-machine operating efficiency by more than 60% in some cases.
All Remmert and Kaltenbach software and control systems are industry standard compatible and developed entirely in-house, which they believe provides the greatest design control and performance optimisation.
They also claim that this ensures the best possible ongoing service and technical support, as proven by their many years of long-standing relationships with many of Europe's leading companies.
