Digital set gives more power to welding aluminium

A Kemppi (UK) product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Feb 6, 2006

Digitally controlled single phase 230V inverter power source using power factor correction technology for MMA and TIG AC and DC welding provides more power for welding aluminium.

Kemppi's Mastertig MLS 2300 AC/DC, is a new digitally controlled single phase 230V inverter power source using PFC (Power Factor Correction) technology for both MMA and TIG AC and DC welding, now available from Kemppi (UK) , based in Bedford, whose parent company is Kemppi OY in Lahti, Finland PFC produces an increase in output current in proportion to the supply current, thereby eliminating the low current outputs and fuse failures usually associated with single phase 230V power sources.

The single phase Mastertig MLS 2300, with a slow 16A fuse, is rated 230A at 40% duty cycle and 170A at 100% duty cycle giving it enough power to weld 5mm aluminium, where normally a three-phase machine is required.

The power source is very compact and powerful, weighing approximately 15kg, offering a high power to weight ratio, which is made possible by the use of modern design technology in its electronic and electromechanical systems.

MasterTig MLS 2300 AC/DC has been designed for high quality aluminium welding and can be used both from a mains supply or a generator, making it useful for installation and repair work both on-site and in fabrication shops, in the food industry, power plants, educational establishments, furniture manufacturing, marine and automotive applications as well as industrial pipe welding and aeronautical engineering.

The balance and frequency controls can be used to optimise root penetration, deoxidation as well as the shape of the arc.

The balance control is a synergic device with its memory pre-set with optimal values for the length and current of the AC cycle.

By increasing the proportion of the negative half cycle the operator can increase the power input to the welded component enabling deeper penetration.

Mastertig MLS 2300 AC/DC is a new addition to the existing Mastertig MLS products following the same design style.

The two alternative control panels (ACS and ACX) provide the user with the ability to select the control panel to suit the job, allowing easy welding parameter adjustments.

When using water cooled torches Kemppi's MasterCool 20 can easily be stored under the power source.
