Kemppi has introduced two digitally controlled compact TIG welding power sources for TIG and MMA welding, which can tack weld thin sheet and the user can adjust weld shape and penetration.

Kemppi has introduced its MasterTig MLS 3000 and 3003 ACDC digitally controlled, compact TIG welding power sources The units can be used for TIG and MMA welding

The three-phase 400V 50/60Hz MasterTig MLS 3000 ACDC and three-phase 230/460V 50/60Hz MasterTig MLS 3003 ACDC are supplied with a choice of two control panels: the ACS and ACX.

Depending on choice of panel, the user can adjust the weld shape and penetration as well as the arc characteristics.

These power sources are designed for use with all TIG welding requirements including equipment and pipework installation and production as well as mechanised welding.

They also provide customised arc characteristics for welding aluminium and stainless steel.

* Micro-tack welding thin metal sheet - Kemppi's MicroTack technology allows the user to initially tack weld very thin materials or materials with different thickness using a fast high current pulse and low heat input - thereby reducing material deformation.

Kemppi told manufacturingtalk that MicroTack is ideal for mechanised welding applications, as the welds produced have very flat profiles.

The speed and the ease of using MicroTack technology can improve productivity.

* Aluminium welding - Kemppi's MIX TIG Technology for aluminium welding provides benefits of DC and AC currents, making the welding together of different thickness materials easier.

Alternating current provides a cleaning effect, whilst direct current produces good penetration.

MIX TIG Technology adjusts the proportions of AC and DC currents and the welder obtains an arc which produces a smooth weld seam and makes welding different thicknesses easier, said Kemppi.

Main features of the two TIG welders are as follows.

* MasterTig MLS 3000 ACDC - is rated 300A 13.3kVA at 40% duty cycle and 190A 7.9kVA at 100% for TIG welding and 250A 14.4kVA at 40% and 190A 11kVA at 100% for MMA welding, the OCV is 63V.

* The MasterTig MLS 3003 ACDC is rated 300A 9.2kVA at 40% duty cycle and 190A 4.8kVA at 100% for TIG welding and 250A 10kVA at 40% and 190A 7kVA at 100% for MMA welding with the OCV being 59V.

For TIG welding both power sources have a welding range from 3A - 300A when TIG welding and 10A-250A when MMA welding.

The compact design produces a power unit weighing 23kg and measuring 500mm long x 180mm wide x 390mm high.
