Lightweight titanium - milled with heavy
cuts
Roughly forged titanium blanks are milled to produce parts with a finely structured final shape, for which Kennametal Hertel has developed its NGE milling cutter.
Load-bearing, high-strength structural components made of lightweight titanium are widely used in the aerospace industry In most cases,
roughly forged titanium blanks are milled to produce parts with a finely structured final shape.
The NGE milling cutter was developed for this type of work.
The strengths of this tool are particularly evident when hollowing deep pockets in full-circumference milling with maximum depth of cut.
At a cutting speed of 55m/min, a depth of cut 125mm and width of cut 50mm, a 50mm diameter milling cutter, for example, achieves a metal removal rate of approx.
1000 cm3/min.
Type A D T indexable inserts in the grade KC725M can be used in the process for up to 30 minutes.
The available milling cutter programme, comprising end mills, square shoulder mills, shell mills and stable monobloc milling cutters, covers a diameter range of 20mm to 160mm.
