Carbide tips with chipbreakers and high wear resistance are used to machine difficult materials as used in the aerospace, turbine, medical engineering and food-processing industries.

The newly developed carbide grades KC5510 and KC5525 with the MS and FS chipbreakers from Kennametal have been designed specifically for difficult-to-machine materials as used in the aerospace, turbine, medical engineering and food-processing industries In addition, both grades feature a new nanostructured high-performance coating which optimally meets the high demands of this type of machining

Through specific matching of the cobalt and tungsten-carbide substrate, the fine-grain KC5510 results in extremely high wear resistance at high cutting speeds in smooth cutting operations.

The KC5525 also features a fine-grain substrate, but with a high Co content.

This makes KC5525 highly suitable for interrupted cutting.

The combination with the high-performance TiAlN coating prolongs tool life at high cutting speeds and enhances process reliability.

Latest technology for producing chipbreaker microgeometries results in extremely high edge stability, enabling high levels of surface finishes to be achieved.

Positive rakes give excellent chip control at reduced cutting forces.
