Mould and die production partnership scheme set up
Mould and die production imposes special demands which have to be met by the machine, tooling, CNC and software, which is why Kennametal has set up a Competence Centre.
Mould and die production imposes special demands which have to be met by the machine and tooling, as well as by the CNC system and the associated software.
Kennametal has therefore opened a Competence Centre for mould and die production in Fuerth, Bavaria, Germany, where it provides tool users with the opportunity to make decisive improvements in the process chain and thereby improve their competitive advantage.
At the centre, customers are able to conduct work on new machining methods and process optimisation in cooperation with Kennametal.
To achieve the best-possible results for the user, Kennametal has entered into a partnership with the technology leaders in the sector.
On the machine side, Hermle was chosen, as this company sets standards in terms of quality, accuracy and speed, particularly with its 5-axis machining centres.
At the Competence Centre Kennametal has deployed a C30U machine with a high-speed spindle capable of reaching a maximum of 28,000 rev/min.
The full performance potential of this machine is utilised in combination with a Siemens 840D CNC system.
Precise and reliable data is required from the CNC program, which is generated by the requisite software.
The hyperMill program from Open Mind, the technology leader in CAD/CAM programs for 5-axis machining, meets these requirements, translating the milling strategies into machine commands.
The interplay of machine, control system, program and tool was impressively demonstrated recently to invited guests.
Martin Bieber, Segment Manager Die and Mold at Kennametal, stated: "The equipment in this new Competence Centre, combined with the company's mould and die production specialists, positions Kennametal as a competent partner for this sector.
Specially designed, high-performance cutting tools increase the competitiveness of our customers.
Kennametal addresses the entire process chain from the perspective of the machine, control system, CNC program and tooling, and highlights the impact of individual components, which can open up considerable improvements for the customer.".
