Solid PCBN carbide takes reliable deep cuts
Solid PCBN carbide with a CVD aluminium multilayer coating offers high fracture toughness for roughing operations taking large depths of cut with maximum process reliability.
KB9640 from Kennametal is a new solid PCBN with CVD aluminium multilayer coating.
Kennametal is the only manufacturer worldwide to offer this combination of a solid PCBN substrate with maximum toughness and with CVD aluminium coating - the best known protective layer against chemical diffusion wear.
The combination of a solid, very tough PCBN of high CBN content and a CVD aluminium multilayer coating offers a large number of advantages.
The high fracture toughness of the PCBN substrate and the ideal suitability for roughing operations in large -cutting depths result in maximum process reliability and increased productivity.
The multiple-edge inserts, which can be used on both sides, achieve an extremely economic cost-per-edge ratio.
The CVD aluminium multilayer coating offers the best protection against thermal and chemical wear and increases tool life compared with non-coated PCBN grades, thanks to improved crater-wear resistance.
The high integrity of the coating increases its adhesion to the substrate and therefore enhances process reliability, as well as boosting productivity by permitting higher cutting parameters.
The main field of application for KB9640 is the high-performance roughing and finishing of pearlitic grey cast iron materials, e.g in roll and brake disc machining.
But this grade also achieves impressive results in the rough machining of hardened steels, chilled cast iron grades and hard coatings.
The product range comprises a large number of negative Kendex geometries in square, round, rhombic and triangular shape.
