Ultrasonic cleaning doubles spring
output
A spring maker has doubled throughput of aerosol springs following the installation of a 4-stage ultrasonics cleaning system.
Springpart Manufacturing has doubled throughput at its Redditch plant following the installation of a special Metal Finishing MF 525 4-stage cleaning system from Kerry Ultrasonics The steel springs produced by Springpart are used in aerosols destined for the medical and cosmetic industries, and therefore must satisfy medically-approved levels of cleanliness

Monitoring system minimises solvent loss
Kerry Ultrasonics has developed an automatic monitoring system which allows users of its cleaning machines to check the rate at which costly solvents are used during processing.
Like its forerunner, the current cleaning process operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Whereas the old system relied on a two-headed robotic transporter, its replacement is automated by Kerry's latest Autotrans Mk 4 Major which, although only single-headed, processes work at double the speed.
Providing positional accuracy of +/- 1mm, the new transporter is able to move at full speed even under its full 80kg load.
Residual wire coatings are removed in an ultrasonic aqueous wash which is 3% phosphoric acid; extraction slots in the upper tank wall eliminate acidic fumes.
An air-driven water rinse is followed by two further rinses in cascading air-driven water before the springs are centrifugally dried.
