Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Aug 17, 2004

A water jet cutting company has made its largest ever investment in a new Technology Centre dedicated to education, technology and product development.

KMT Cutting Systems AB (formerly ABB I-R Waterjet Systems AB) has opened the doors on the company's largest ever investment - the new Technology Centre at the company's headquarters in Ronneby in Southern Sweden.

KMT Cutting Systems is the world's leading manufacturer and designer of robotic waterjet cutting systems and a leading manufacturer of robotic routing systems.

The new Technology Centre is a unique facility dedicated to education, technology and product development.

It offers customers the opportunity to work with a range of pure waterjet cutting, abrasive waterjet cutting and routing systems, to better acquaint themselves with the different techniques and to help decide which would be best for their trimming requirements.

It is also a world education centre providing the latest information, both practical and theoretical, on waterjet cutting, routing and other associated technologies.

KMT Cutting Systems President, Sten Camitz, said: "The new Technology Centre mirrors the product range available from KMT Cutting Systems.

With the new Technology Centre, we want to build on our renowned status as a supplier of trimming solutions to become the automotive industry's natural choice as a partner for trimming technology for interior parts." The Technology Centre is headed up by Niclas Pihl of KMT Cutting Systems.

He said: "The Technology Centre is a commitment to competence development for our customers and for us.

The Centre provides a unique world-class environment for product and technical development.

Customers from all over the world will be invited to come here for education, material and cut tests and process analyses." With over 400 systems installed worldwide, waterjet cutting technology from KMT Cutting Systems is used for trim applications on interior components of vehicles made from soft materials such as polyurethane foam, moulded fibres, sandwich materials or composites.

KMT Cutting Systems has now extended the company's product range with the launch of the Cutting Box Routing S offering customers a new solution for routing work on interior and exterior trim parts made from plastics, composites and other fibreglass reinforced materials.

"The new Technology Centre will further strengthen our position as the world's leading supplier of waterjet cutting systems and make it possible for us to expand our product offering beyond waterjet and routing to include other processes.

Under our new owner, KMT, we have the commitment and stability to achieve continuous growth on the world stage.

This makes an investment in the future such as the Technology Centre extremely exciting," commented Sten Camitz.
