KMT launches robotic trimming system

A KMT Robotic Solutions product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Nov 13, 2008

KMT Robotic Solutions has launched the Robotrim FT-700, a robotic router trimming system specifically designed to trim acrylic bath tubs.

The Robotrim FT-700 router trimming system can trim a range of tub sizes up to 2133 x 1524 x 762mm and a wide variety of shapes, including skirted tubs.

The Robotrim FT-700 overcomes the disadvantages of manual trimming of bath tubs, which is a dusty, time-consuming process that often creates a harsh working environment for employees and part quality issues for manufacturers.

The FT-700 eliminates the need for drilling jigs and trims higher quality features in less time than manual trimming.

The fixed table (or fixture cart option) in the robotic routing system keeps the part in one stationary position during the trimming cycle so there's virtually no risk of chipping the tub.

The FT-700's flexible fixturing options also allow it to trim skirted and non-skirted products in a range of sizes.

Each Robotrim FT-700 routing system is equipped with a riser-mounted KMT Accutrim R-363 robot and its Fanuc R-30IA robot controller, as well as a 7.6kW spindle with automatic tool change capability.

The FT-700 can be supplied with a choice of software tools, including KMT's bath tub trimming program.

The system's Accufind laser sensor locates the part in space, detects any part variation and automatically adjusts the robot program to trim features accurately.

System calibration tools allow for tool centre point identification and fixture changeover, while KMT's Routerware application software reduces the time it takes to develop and adjust part programs.

If problems arise, Fanuc's Collision Guard software will protect the robot and tooling in the event of a collision.

The touchscreen operator panel provides a means to control the system and manage part option programs.

In addition, KMT's Remote Administration feature allows KMT engineers to troubleshoot system issues via a phone line or Ethernet connection.

Options for the FT-700 include a bar-code reader to manage part data collection; a second saw sensor in the tool change rack; a cart fixture change system to replace the fixed table; an enclosure for dust management and safety; and KMT/Fanuc's Campro and Trimpro off-line programming software packages.
