Extra long stroke chucks added to range

A Kitagawa Europe product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Nov 27, 2006

Extra long stroke chucks - for components requiring a large jaw opening - and complementary product enhancements have been added to power chuck ranges.

Leading workholding and manufacturing equipment specialist, Kitagawa Europe, has introduced a new range of extra long stroke chucks plus a series of complementary product enhancements to its existing power chuck ranges.

The ML type ultra long stroke chucks have been developed specifically to meet the needs of components requiring a large jaw opening.

Available in 6in and 8in diameter versions, three-jaw ML06 and ML08 units provide 40mm and 50mm jaw strokes respectively, with corresponding maximum grip diameters of 169mm and 215mm.

Equivalent two-jaw MLT units are ideal for components with irregular profiles, while MLV 6in and 8in variants feature single moving jaws, which act against a fixed stop.

Kitagawa has also extended the capabilities of its innovative DL series chucks to include 6, 8, 10 and 12in diameter versions.

Claimed to be the world's first parallel gripping, pull back operation chucks, DL series units are suitable for both ID or OD gripping applications.

Their design ensures minimal interference with the workpieceandsup1;s Z-axis, making these high accuracy chucks ideal for second as well as first operation work.

DL series units also allow standard serrated top jaws to be used from Kitagawa's popular B200 series chuck range, further enhancing the design's productivity and cost-effectiveness.

The new chucks' fully sealed, dust-proof configuration make them particularly suitable for high volume automated production environments.

Further new Kitagawa chuck developments include the redeveloped and recently-extended BB series of large through hole chucks.

Providing increased bar capacity, the 6, 8, 10 and 12in diameter models in this range offer through hole diameters of 53, 66, 81 and 106mm respectively and can be supplied with SS type compact cylinders for high grip strength and operational speed.

Kitagawa's latest products are complemented by the company's standard and special-purpose chuck ranges including PLS series stationary type units, whose versatility and performance enable them to replace purpose-designed workpiece jigs in many applications; PU external and PUE internal pull-lock series chucks, designed for workpieces up to 160mm and maximum rotational speeds of 7,000 rev/min; and PUB large through hole chucks for shaft type applications up to 72mm diameter.

PW power wing series chucks are offered in 6, 8, 10, 12 and 15in sizes and are also available in two jaw (PWT) versions.

All models feature high radial grip, plus a powerful pull-back action that allows tapered castings and rough forgings to be clamped securely, whether gripped internally or externally.

LU series chucks provide an attractively-priced solution for applications that do not demand high levels of precision.

They feature long jaw strokes and are typically employed for gripping rough, tapered castings or forgings.

FG finger grip chucks incorporate component face clamping to ensure rigid workholding with distortion of a componentandsup1;s flange or ring.

They also feature an aluminium rear body for low inertia and can be equipped with a part loading detection system to suit automated production applications.

In parallel, the companyandsup1;s FG50L power chuck has been developed specifically to meet the needs of vehicle alloy road wheel manufacturers.

Available for wheel diameters from 13 to 18 inches, the FG50L weighs just 97 kg and can be used at rotational speeds of up to 3,000 rev/min.
