Sharpener regrinds different drill types

A versatile and affordable drill sharpener is suitable for drills with point angles from 118 to 140 deg and will accurately regrind standard, HSS, cobalt, thick webbed and split point drills.

The Darex V391 is the latest addition to the range of drill sharpening equipment available from workholding and machining accessories specialist Kitagawa Europe Ideal for general machining or fabrication shop use, the new V391 costs less than 100 new drill bits and enables even inexperienced users to sharpen drills from 3mm (1/8in) to 19mm (3/4in) diameter in less than 60s

This versatile and affordable unit is suitable for drills with point angles from 118 to 140 deg and will accurately regrind standard, HSS, cobalt, thick webbed and split point drills with equal ease.

The V391 incorporates two separate grinding wheels, one for sharpening and the other for point splitting.

Super abrasive Borazon (CBN) wheels are specified as standard, for regrinding high speed steel (HSS) and cobalt drills, with optional diamond wheels available for use with carbide tooling.

The V391 requires no special tools and features a compact, fully enclosed design which includes a vacuum extraction port for clean and safe operation.

To complement the availability of the V391, Kitagawa is running a promotional offer on the Darex XT3000 modular drill sharpening system.

Until the end of June 2007, customers trading in their existing Darex M5 or SP2500 drill sharpeners will be given a generous discount of 25% on a new XT3000 unit.

Designed as an affordable drill sharpener that can grow with users' needs, the XT3000 can pay for itself in less than 12 months based on only 20 drills a week being sharpened.

The XT3000 base unit quickly and accurately regrinds 3-21mm (1/8-13/16 in) diameter standard or split point tools at any angle between 118 and 150 deg.

It also enables each drill's tip configuration to be ground precisely, including relief angles and split point profile.

The unit meets or exceeds international aerospace standards for controlling key geometry variation ensuring precise drill performance.

It is also equipped with long-lasting, Borazon (CBN) wheels for sharpening high speed steel and cobalt drills or can be supplied with diamond wheels for carbide tooling.

The base unit's capabilities are extended through a series of easily attached optional modules.

These include a large capacity unit for drills up to 30mm diameter (1.182in) and a countersink module for sharpening Weldon type or single flute countersink tools.

A dedicated step drill unit accommodates tools with a maximum pilot diameter of 12.7mm (1/2in) and step sizes up to 21mm (13/16in).

Further modules are available for sharpening sheet metal point (Brad Point) and 90 deg point drills from 3-21mm (1/8-13/16in) diameter.
