Plasma/gas profiler adds water jet
cutting
Waterjet system is able to accurately cut a many materials, ranging from plastics to granite, without creating any vapour, dust or smoke, with no heat-affected zone, hardening or stress.
Burley Profile Specialists has been producing steel profiles using traditional gas and plasma cutting for many years at its Aylesford, Kent base, so when the company decided to diversify into waterjet cutting to be able to cater for a much wider range of customers, it chose KMT Waterjet Systems, formerly known as Ingersoll-Rand Waterjet Cutting Systems, because having built up a reputation for quality and service, Burley wanted the best system available in order to be able to offer its customers a first class service Since its installation, the KMT Waterjet Systems technology has brought many advantages to Burley, giving an almost unlimited capacity in profile cutting - the waterjet system being able to very accurately cut a broad spectrum of materials, ranging from plastic to granite, without creating any vapour, dust or smoke, with no heat-affected zone, hardening or material stress

Water jet cutting is very versatile and burr-free
Highly versatile waterjet cutting offers major advantages in terms of accuracy of cut, limited material distortion and almost burr free edges, as will be demonstrated at EuroBLECH, Germany.
Waterjet cutting intensifier saves service costs
Waterjet cutting intensifier is offered in models offering pressure up to 4150 bar and run one 0.35mm or two 0.25mm water orifices at 4100 bar for greater flow.
A large proportion of Burley's waterjet cutting involves architectural profiles in stainless steel, brass and copper, in sections up to 100mm thick.
The machine bed size of 4metres x 2metres allows large profiles to be produced rapidly to high accuracy standards, with all machine movements being controlled by CNC.
Because the waterjet cutting technology was completely new to Burley, the company took a lot of care to make sure the right choice was made when selecting equipment.

Intensifier boosts water jet cutting systems
A 30HP intensifier is an affordable, self-contained readily connectable unit that provides cutting pressure of up to 3.600 bar/ 52.000 lb/in2 for single- or multiple-head water jet machines.
Melvin Slight, Sales Manager at Burley Profile Specialists, took up the story: "When we decided that waterjet cutting was the way forward we looked at several different machines.
Although the competitors were very good we went for an independent UK manufacturer, Techserv who used KMT Waterjet Systems technology.
Out of all the machines we had seen it was the KMT Waterjet Systems pump that impressed us the most, the performance really is excellent.
The Autoline cutting head has also exceeded our expectations.
It is easy to use, fast and keeps the cost of our cutting costs low.
The after sales service we have had has also been first class - KMT really look after their customers." Since purchasing the waterjet system in 2001, Burley has continued to expand its customer base - so much so that the company is about to open a new site totally dedicated to waterjet cutting.
Mr Slight continued, "The gas and plasma cutting market is getting very overcrowded but being able to offer waterjet cutting has opened up a completely new marketplace for us and it has really taken off." "We run our present machine for 12 - 14 hours a day and the demand is far greater than our present capacity so we have now bought a new site which covers an acre where we are building our new department.
That will be totally for waterjet cutting and we will be installing three or four KMT Waterjet systems machines in there to cope with all the work we are getting.".
