Soft start pump saves 20% on waterjet energy draw
With a maximum current draw of only 63A, a 'soft start' pump for a subcontract waterjet cutting machine provides up to 20% energy savings compared to more traditional pumps.
The energy saving attributes of the new Soft Start 50HP pump from KMT Waterjet Systems were essential for Leicester Waterjet, UK.
Energy savings are very important for any new company and the KMT Soft Start pump, with a maximum current draw of only 63A, provides up to 20% energy savings compared to more traditional pumps.
The managing director at Leicester Waterjet is Chris Procter who, with a wealth of toolmaking, metal cutting and laser profiling experience, decided to branch out on his own.
Offering a subcontract waterjet cutting service for almost any material the company has rapidly built up a customer base of precision engineers, signmakers, aerospace and medical systems companies - cutting aluminium and other metals, plastics, glass, composites, stone and tiles.
Like many new companies, Leicester Waterjet is situated in a modern industrial unit, and as such is limited to a 100A incoming supply, so it was essential to have the Soft Start with a current draw of only 63A, as opposed to the traditional 50HP pump that needs 100A.
"Otherwise the lights would have gone out every time we switched the machine on," said Procter.
The Waterjet Sweden cutting machine has a 3.5 x 1.8m cutting table and is powered by a KMT 50HP Plus Pump with Soft Start.
This new feature can now be specified for the full range of KMT 50HP pumps, including the Streamline, SLV and Standard pumps.
Waterjet Sweden has offices in the UK at Boston Spa near Wetherby.
As Leicester Waterjet depends on only one machine for its livelihood, reliability and service are of paramount importance to the company.
Procter expanded on these vital issues: "The service we have received has been excellent".
"Waterjet Sweden and KMT came along and set the machine up for us and provided training".
"Since we have been up and running, no matter what time of day or night, they are happy to answer any questions we have".
"They really could not do better.".
