Lubrication switch saves bearing
breakdowns
A major user of polythene extruders had a major problem of repetitive large taper bearing lubrication break-down, which was solved by switching to a grease lubricant.
A major polythene stretch film manufacturer recently contacted us with a regards to a major lubrication problem This company run a number of polythene extruders, each of which has a die containing a large taper roller bearing

Hydraulic oils formulated for food manufacturing
NSF H1 certified HLP hydraulic oils exhibit excellent low friction characteristics, low temperature fluidity and water separating behaviour as well as far lower top up needs.
Up until recently they had been lubricating these bearings with a competitor grease at the rate of 1.2kg / day !! As a result of exposure to high temperatures ( approx.
180 - 200degC ), and high loads ( approx.
5,500lb/in2 ), the grease was breaking down far too readily, and in turn was no longer protecting the bearings from failure.
Due to this inadequate lubrication, the bearings were collapsing at a rate of one every 9 - 12 months, at a cost of around GBP 10,000 per breakdown.
With this information to hand, Kluber surveyed the situation and put forward an alternative lubricant, namely Barrierta L55/2.
Since switching to this grease the company has advised us that they are now using only 2kg per month as opposed to 36kg, the grease is still white in colour with no sign of breakdown what so ever.
This simple switch has reduced their lubricants usage, reduced labour costs on maintenance and increased productivity. Request a free brochure from Kluber Lubrication GB ...
