Speciality forming lubricants need no cleaning
Speciality metal forming lubricants, which do not need a cleaning process, play a major roll in the rolling and deep drawing of aluminium foils for food packaging.
Over the past 18 months Kluber Lubrication have been contacted by no less than 7 major bakeries from London to Dublin.
All the bakeries were experiencing similar problems with their oven chains, irrespective of whether they were using Mecatherm, Barrimule or Gouet baking ovens.
Following site surveys at all the plants it soon became apparent that the problems encountered of chain seizures, excessive wear, chain failure and unreliable machine operation were down to one culprit - namely the lubricant in use.
Due to the high temperatures, in excess of 220degC, inflicted upon the chain during the baking process, the previously used lubricant had a tendency of burning off leaving a build up of solids in the chain clearances resulting in expensive chain seizure and machine failure.
Hotemp OY 95 which is the recommended lubricating oil from Messrs Mecatherm, France, for lubrication of Baking Oven transport chain subject to high temperature influences was put forward as an alternative to all the bakeries experiencing these problems.
Hotemp OY 95 can be applied to the baking oven chains via a centralised total loss lubrication system, or via automatic drip feed brush applicators.
Even with oven process temperatures in the region of 250degC during manufacture the ovens have now run in excess of 12 months with no reported chain wear or lubricant carbonisation problems.
