Geo Kingsbury Machine Tools, Gosport, UK, has announced the death of the company's founder, George Kingsbury, who passed away peacefully on 11th July 2004 at the age of 96.

After spending his early years in the family motor business, George Kingsbury branched out into engineering in the early 1930's, first as a sub-contract manufacturer.

In the 1950's he ventured into machine tool sales and became a well-known figure in the machine tool industry.

In particular, his name was synonymous with that of the German lathe manufacturer, Index, which his company has represented since 1956 in the UK and Eire.

George Kingsbury's first office was in Victoria Street, London with showrooms in Milner Street, Chelsea.

The company moved to Staines in 1965 and latterly to Gosport in 1988 where the company is now managed by his grandsons Richard (Managing Director) and Peter (Operations Director).

George Kingsbury is survived by his sons, Mike and Chris, the current Chairman of Geo Kingsbury Holdings, a family-owned group of companies with interests in the engineering, timber and property sectors.
