One of the oldest engineering companies in the world, SHW, which manufactures large-capacity machining centres, has appointed Gosport-based Geo Kingsbury as its sales and service agent in the UK.
One of the oldest engineering companies in the world, SHW, which was established in Germany in 1365 to produce pig iron and now manufactures large-capacity machining centres, has appointed Gosport-based Geo Kingsbury as its sales and service agent in the UK The machine tool division dates back to 1940, at which time it was in the vanguard of one-hit production with its philosophy of machining cubic workpieces on multiple sides in a single set-up

Coventry-based foundry has upheld and expanded exports by adding on high-tech mill-turning centre facilities to machine turbocharger impellers supplied to Italian and US customers.
Today, the smallest production centre that SHW offers has a working envelope of 2.0 x 1.3 x 1.3m, whilst the largest travelling-column machine has a 30m X-axis and is powered by a 60kW spindle.
All are normally supplied in 5-axis configuration.
Typical applications are to be found in the aerospace industry as well as for machining rolls for paper-making machinery, diesel engines for ship propulsion and power generation, and large tools and dies.
There are even twin-column arrangements for making parts for cranes and large off-road vehicles.
