Kodak's Graphic Communications Group Showcases Innovative Solutions at 2005 AIIM On Demand Expo

Eastman Kodak Company is showcasing the industry's broadest range of innovative prepress, digital printing and document imaging solutions at the AIIM On demand Conference and Exposition at the Philadelphia Convention Center from May 17-19, 2005 (Kodak Booth Nos 2150 and 601).

Kodak's AIIM On demand exhibits highlight both the breadth of its product lines and the depth of its solutions for a wide range of applications, with a focus on technology, tools and expertise to help customers capture, manage, archive, print and deliver business information.

Kodak is exhibiting its systems for on-demand print providers in Booth No 2150 and its market-leading document scanners and reference archive offerings in Booth No 601.

The booth exhibits demonstrate real-world applications, from marketing and communications programs using digital printing workflows to common office environments for document scanning.

"Kodak is demonstrating how our products are used in real-world customer environments.

More than ever, customers can turn to Kodak to address the challenges and opportunities of the transformation in graphic communications and information management," said James Langley, President, Graphic Communications Group (GCG), and Senior Vice President, Eastman Kodak Company.

"Kodak is committed to providing our customers with leading products and services to help them expand their businesses." As the market leader in mid- and high-volume document scanners worldwide, Kodak is launching three new scanners at AIIM On demand:.

* The Kodak i55 and i65 Scanners offer improved bitonal and colour performance, increased speed and productivity, and added flexibility for companies, organizations, and governmental agencies with daily volume requirements of 1,000 pages.

The i55 is simplex; the i65 duplex.

Both distributed capture scanners have built-in flatbeds.

* The black-and-white-only Kodak i610 Scanner features speeds up to 80 pages per minute, and has a peak daily volume of 60,000 pages.

The newest member of the award-winning Kodak i600 Series, the i610 can be upgraded to colour scanning and higher speed as an enterprise's needs change.

"The launch of these new scanners - especially the i55 and i65 - illustrate our commitment to extending our leadership in mid- and high-volume document scanning into the lower-volume segments," said Bill Gates, general manager and vice president of sales, US and C, Document Imaging.

"Further, our new products bolster what is already the industry's broadest portfolio of document imaging products and services." In Booth No 2150, Kodak will display a range of breakthrough products from prepress and workflow to high-quality digital and offset output, including innovative monitor proofing, workflow software, production scanning, high-volume inkjet printing systems, colour and monochrome digital presses, wide-format digital printing, direct imaging systems and supplies, offset plates and films.

Products featured include the Kodak Versamark VT3000 continuous inkjet printing system, the Kodak Versamark DS4350 UV printing system, the Kodak Nexpress 2100 digital production colour press, Kodak Digimaster E125 digital production system, ENCAD Novajet 1000i wide-format printers, and a range of prepress and colour management systems from Kodak Polychrome Graphics.

"Kodak has the technology, expertise, colour science, product portfolio, and the solutions and services to help customers increase their businesses by delivering impactful communications anywhere, any time, any way - to any one," said Kevin Joyce, Managing Director, Sales and Operations, US and Canada Region, GCG.

"On demand visitors can experience the range of solutions under one roof." Demonstrating the importance of Kodak's colour science to both its customers and partners, Kodak announced that it has completed a joint development effort with Emtex to integrate the Kodak Colorflow Colour Processor into the Emtex VIP Output Management software product.

This integration provides more accurate colour rendition based on the industry standard profiles defined by the International Colour Consortium (ICC).

The newly integrated solution will be available to Kodak Versamark's customer base through its reseller agreement with Emtex, as well as to Emtex's customer base.

Kodak will demonstrate a variety of application workflows that illustrate how its systems can be used to produce valuable variable data and on-demand marketing and communications services for customers.

For example, in one application, a Versamark VT3000 inkjet printing system prints multiple elements for a customer loyalty program - including a personalized solicitation letter, a full-colour program statement and a booklet.

In another application, a Versamark DS4350 UV system prints variable information on letters preprinted on a KPG Directpress 5634 system and Nexpress 2100 press, and the Nexpress 2100 press and Kodak Nexglosser glossing unit print high-quality catalogs, fliers and posters for a high-end estate sale.

Other scenarios include personalized mailings for a CD music club; book production for on-demand book publishing, point-of-purchase displays and variable data postcards and fliers.

The booth also features compelling proofing and colour management demonstrations, including the Matchprint Virtual Press Side Proofing System, shown alongside a KPG Directpress 5634 system.

The Matchprint Virtual Press Side Proofing System extends accurate, reliable, and timely colour to the print stage of the print production workflow, regardless of location.

By delivering a consistent, accurate colour proof to a standardized monitor, Matchprint Virtual Systems enable greater communication and collaboration among designers, advertising agencies, prepress and printers, reducing waste, streamlining approvals and dramatically reducing time-to-market for critical colour jobs.

Attendees also can learn about Kodak's professional consulting services and business development programs that optimize processes and help build profitable business for customers; the use of new applications among marketers, advertisers and agencies to drive demand for digital services; application software that simplifies use of creative new applications; and global support and services to keep equipment up and running.
