Eastman Kodak Company reports that Versand-Service Plate KG has installed two DS5240 printers.

This brings a total of nine Kodak Versamark D-series, narrow-format inkjet printing systems in operation at the Germany-based firm Six DS5120 and one DS5300 printing systems are already being used to print addresses for mailings, envelopes, catalogs and magazines

Versand-Service Plate KG is one of the largest employers in the Schwerin region and has built a strong reputation for its expertise in personalizing and finishing print products.

Jens Krischkowski, who along with Wilfried Paepcke is one of the two general managers of Versand-Service Plate KG, explains his firm's ongoing commitment to Kodak Versamark technology.

"High throughput, high print quality and high reliability in three-shift operation: these are the reasons why we're so happy with our D-series printing systems," states Krischkowski.

"The environmentally friendly inkjet printing process, based on water-soluble inks, is another important plus." To fully exploit the exceptional high output of the Kodak Versamark printing systems, Versand-Service Plate KG mainly uses them offline.

"The inserting machines just can't keep up," says Krischkowski.

Depending on the job, the average run lengths can vary between five thousand and five million.

Typical jobs range from addressing a customer magazine for the DAK Health Insurance Fund, to imprinting partial addresses on bulk mail advertisements for the coffee company Tschibo.

Jens Krischkowski points out that the approximately five millimeters of space between the printhead and the substrate adds up to a strong technical advantage.

"This enables products that aren't perfectly flat, or thicker kinds of paper, to be printed in the same line weight with absolutely no smearing," explains Krischkowski.

Wolfgang Wild, general manager of the distribution firm Solex , notes that Kodak Versamark continuous inkjet printing systems deliver reliable results as well as profitable returns.

"These systems are simply more economical than competitive offerings".

"If you're printing run lengths in the millions, it matters whether you're paying EUR 1.50 for a thousand addresses or just 20 cents," asserts Wild.

Solex , based in Nuremberg, became an authorized distributor of Kodak Versamark narrow-format inkjet printing systems in Germany and Austria in May 2005.

The Kodak Versamark DS5120, DS5240 and DS5300 systems are monochrome and spot color printing systems for water-based inks.

The print width ranges from 1 inch to 2.77 inches on the DS5300.

The systems are ideally suited for barcoding, numbering, addressing and other forms of personalization.

The DS5120 and DS5240 achieve a printing speed of up to 1000 feet per minute, the DS5300 up to 500 feet per minute.

All of the printing systems operate using proprietary continuous inkjet technology developed by Kodak Versamark.

They can be integrated in existing offset presses as a simple printer configuration, or installed in finishing lines.

Versand-Service Plate KG depends on its' Kodak Versamark printing systems to respond to the demands of an ever-growing customer base.

"We're successful because we deliver high quality products - exactly on-time," concludes Jens Krischkowski.
