Nissan modernises its cranes
Realising that modernising an old crane is a good alternative to the capital outlay involved in a new one, Nissan called in East Kilbride Crane experts, Konecranes UK.
A recently conducted appraisal of the Sittingbourne mill concluded that some of the existing crane equipment no longer suited modern production requirements and it was decided to replace some cranes and upgrade others.
The order is for a 20 tonne SM Double Girder 11.5 mt span, a 26 tonne SMD 11.5 mt span and a 26 tonne SMD of 14.5 mt span; all configured to A8/M8 duty classification.
Additionally Konecranes will supply two 20 tonne SMD replacement trolleys and a 26 tonne SMD replacement trolley for existing cranes, modify an existing panel on another crane and supply a powered rotational hook on a previously supplied Konecrane along with radio controls and spare parts.
The new cranes will be fully equipped with all Konecranes modern features, such as DynA Invertor control on all motions and will be operated through Konecranes Remox radio controls.
Konecranes own AC Frequency Control System provides the most modern and reliable drive for cranes, significantly improving controllability and reducing maintenance costs.
Speaking of the order, Konecranes MD Gordon Adie said, "We have an excellent track record in the paper industry world-wide.
The fact that we are now not only still supplying new cranes but also have the ability and technology to upgrade and modernise both our own older operating cranes but also other models speaks volumes to our commitment to remain to the forefront of the design of hi-tec overhead travelling cranes and their components." All the new cranes will have Konecranes Premium Condition Monitoring to minimise maintenance downtime.
True vertical lift, floodlights, all motion limit switches, back up pendant controls, totally enclosed transmissions and festoon cables will be standard to all cranes.
Due to the temperature of the operational environment in the mill, most cranes and control panels will have air conditioning and a special paint system applied.
The order, totalling around ?430k will be delivered to Sittingbourne during November and December this year.
