Precious metals plant orders metallurgical crane
Konecranes UK has won the contract to supply an A8/M8 duty, 25/15 tonne, 17m span LV double girder crane to precious metals refiner, Umicore in Belgium.
East Kilbride crane manufacturer Konecranes UK has won the contract to supply a 25/15 tonne 17 metre span LV double girder crane to Umicore in Belgium.
Umicore Precious Metals Refining is recognized as a world class player; not only for the quality of its technologies and products, but also for the quality of its outperforming services.
The crane which will be rated for A8/M8 duty and will be used to lift ladles for lifting molten metal.
Due to the arduous duty the crane will have open laid out winches on both hoists.
The trolley is a two part unit where an upper trolley can rotate through 270 deg thus allowing the auxiliary hoist to be positioned on either side of the main hoist for ease of tipping the ladle to suit many locations in the cast house area.
It will be remote radio controlled, and as the crane will operate in high temperatures , all cables and culices are rated to accommodate this.
Each hoist will have Konecranes DynAHoist inverter control and the cross and long travel will operate with Konecranes DynAC inverter control.
There will be platforms on each girder, floodlights, access lights, emergency escape lights.
Konecranes own ControlPro monitoring will give overload weight protection and allow planning of maintenance downtime and plot the crane's performance over the expected lifetime.
Many other safety features are included in the design, such as dual hoist brakes, twin rope reeving, load summation between hoists etc In addition to the bespoke Konecranes LV open winch trolley, a number of small cranes will be supplied from Konecranes sister company - Konecranes BV located in the Netherlands.
The contract, worth in excess of EUR 450,000 will be delivered to Belgium in March 2007.
