PUR mixing head is very compact
A PUR mixing head is extremely compact for easy handling and its small size means it is capable of operating even in relatively inaccessible areas.
Some PUR applications need a mixing head capable of high-precision processing at very low throughput rates Critical for product quality is excellent mixing performance, even at the bottom end of the throughput scale, and a very smooth, laminar flow pour

A quick mould change system from Krauss-Maffei is helping automotive components supplier, R-TEK, to keep ahead of the demanding requirements of its customers.
Krauss-Maffei has now developed a mini-volume mixing head, the MK 3,5/5UL-2KVV, that meets these criteria reliably for thoughput down to 5g/s.
The new mixing head is extremely compact for easy handling and its small size means it is capable of operating even in relatively inaccessible areas.
Each of the two PUR components is fed to the mixing head via a connector block with an integrated high-pressure filter.
The blocks also provide a by-pass function to facilitate set-up and production start.
If necessary, heating cartridges and pressure and temperature sensors can be integrated in the connector blocks as an option to further enhance process stability.
The MK 3,5/5UL-2KVV is a self-cleaning transfer mixing head.
The discharge tube is at an angle of 90 deg to the mixing chamber, to reduce turbulence in the outflowing compound, for an accurate, uniform pour.
In addition, this design makes it possible to throttle the flow from the mixing head in order to improve the homogeneity of hard-to-mix compounds.
The small dimensions of mixing head components often required the use of special materials.
The control piston (3.5mm diameter) and the cleaning piston (5mm diameter) are both made of high-performance materials with specially treated surfaces.
Despite their minute dimensions, they nonetheless incorporate recirculation grooves.
The intake nozzles can be changed separately, making it possible to process different materials in varying mixing ratios.
The 'VV' position of the nozzles in the mixing chamber helps to guarantee homogenous mixing.
There are a number of applications ready and waiting for this new addition to Krauss-Maffei's mixing head family.
Pouring PUR as a seal or adhesive is one important area; other applications include the production of filter foams and of ultra-high quality surface coatings in processes such as Clear Coat Molding or SkinForm.
