Workholding system extends vice capability
Kurt Manufacturing's Hydramax workholding system for its 8in vices holds five or eight parts in a single clamping and replace standard jaw plates.
Clamping system ousts special holding fixtures
Kurt Manufacturing describes how a specialised work clamping system has eliminated special holding fixtures and allowed single set-up 5-axis milling, drilling and face-milling.
The Kurt Engineered Systems is a new Kurt Division, which combines its Custom Engineered Workholding group, its Electronics Division and partnerships with robotic integrators.
The Kurt Engineered Systems Division will provide a 'one-stop' source for fully automated systems with comprehensive systems for automating machine tool manufacturing and gauging operations.
The system to be shown at IMTS '08 includes a Fanuc LR Mate 200iC 6-axis robot interacting with a Kurt CTHDM6 hydraulic tower mounted on to a Haas HRT310 4th axis indexer and a Kurt gauge.
The CTHDM6 tower will be modified and plumbed for double acting hydraulics that will allow sensing positive movement when the workholding closes and opens on a part to be machined.
The automated gauge will measure and record features on the machined part.
Recorded data for process control, product traceability and process capability studies will be captured and displayed in real time.
General manager of Kurt Manufacturing, Jeff Lenz, told manufacturingtalk: "Members of Kurt's new Engineered Systems Division make a formidable team.
The team brings many years of expertise in machine tool fixtures, electronics gauging and software development to take on successfully the most challenging projects".
He continued: "From fully automated systems interfaced with multiple pallet machining centers to simple modifications of standard Kurt products, our team mission is to provide quality custom built systems in keeping with legendary Kurt high productivity and quality standards".
Kurt Manufacturing said that its Kurt Engineered Systems is a 'must-stop-and-see' location.
