Robotics add to composite wing
development

For developing the 'next generation' of Airbus composite aircraft wing designs in the UK, KUKA will contribute its robotic expertise in formulating rapid, automated assembly systems.

KUKA Automation + Robotics has announced that it is to play a major role in a GBP 100 million aviation research and technology programme for next generation of aircraft wing design in Britain The project is headed by aircraft manufacturer Airbus

It will involve 16 UK-based companies and organisations including KUKA.

Priovate industry is funding around half of the programme and various UK Government agencies will provide the balance.

KUKA will share its robotics expertise to help produce innovative technologies that will lead to the rapid automated assembly of components.

The Halesowen-based company will contribute a substantial figure over the next three years to the Next Generation Composite Wing (NGCW) project - one of the most significant aircraft research programmes launched in the UK for several decades, said KUKA.

KUKA Automation + Robotics is part of KUKA AG, Europe's largest robot manufacturer.

It has extensive experience in the aerospace sector and supplies automated systems to leading aircraft makers in the UK and overseas.
