processing/communication of 3D data
optimised

Crane and construction equipment manufacturer has adopted an Xtensible virtual world description language-based information network to optimize the processing and communication of 3D data.

Lattice Technology, developers of the ultra-compressed XVL 3D format and 3D Publishing applications, has announced the organization-wide adoption of XVL and Lattice software at the Liebherr Group The Germany-based Liebherr Group, one of the world's largest manufacturers of construction machinery, agreed for implementation of an XVL-based (Xtensible Virtual world description Language) information network, supported by Lattice Technology's reseller DocWare

Liebherr Group plans for XVL software to be used throughout the entire operation, which includes production facilities in 12 countries across the globe, in order to optimize the processing and communication of 3D data for processes downstream of the design phase.

3D CAD data for all Liebherr products will be converted into a compressed XVL form and stored in a database, which can be accessed by all company departments: work preparation, technical documentation, marketing, quality assurance, sales, and production.

Liebherr's decision to choose XVL was due to the enormously high compression rate and the excellent applications available for the further processing of XVL data (creation of exploded drawings, animations, etc).

By choosing Docware , Liebherr has opted for a highly competent partner which already successfully serves a number of customers in the XVL environment.

XVL-based compression reduces 3D CAD files to up to 1% of its original file size without loss of clarity of the product data.

Software from Lattice Technology enables annotation, animation, and modification to XVL models by non-CAD users.

The technology has been successfully applied in large manufacturing operations, most notably at Toyota Motor Company, to overcome the problems of large-size CAD documents.

Bill Barnes, general manager of Lattice Technology commented: "The global trend in practical uses of 3D data and Lattice Technology's technical strategy are seeing high rates of growth.

We are pleased to see XVL put to use in yet another worldwide manufacturing enterprise." * About The Leibherr Group - the Liebherr family business was established in 1949 by Hans Liebherr.

The great success of his first mobile, easy-to-assemble and affordable tower crane was the foundation on which the company flourished.

Today, Liebherr is not only one of the world's leading manufacturers of construction machinery but is also an acknowledged supplier of technically innovative user-oriented products and services in numerous other fields.

Over the years the family business has grown into what is today a group of companies, employing a workforce of approx.

22,000 in more than 100 companies on all continents.

* About Docware - Germany-based Docware is a reseller and implementer of Lattice Technology's 3D publishing products.

The company provides software for management of information in after-sales service and the spare parts industries.

The Docware solutions range from electronic spare parts catalogs and service information systems, spare parts shops, integrated e-commerce and e-services solutions to complex service portals.

With Parts-Publisher, a parts catalog software, Docware has assumed pole position in the market for electronic parts catalogs and digital service information systems in Europe.

* About Lattice Technology - founded in 1997 with headquarters in Tokyo, Japan and San Francisco, USA, Lattice Technology provides global companies with proven solutions for the propagation of 2D/3D design data across the enterprise.

Lattice's standards based XVL (eXtensible Virtual world description Language) technology enables companies to securely provide highly accurate and compressed 3D files to partners, suppliers, and internal departments in a lightweight browser-based solution.

XVL is unmatched in performance, compression and accuracy.

XVL is widely introduced in more than 2000 companies, mainly in the automotive and electronics industries. Request a free brochure from Lattice Technology ...
