PCmover campaign helps PC manufacturers and vendors offer convenient migration to their customers.

WA-Laplink Software has responded to strong interest among PC manufacturers and vendors in providing customers with a better upgrade experience by teaming up with select partners to make PCmover available direct from the desktop of new PCs PCmover transfers files, settings, and programs from an old PC to a new one across any network connection, a Laplink USB cable, or using removable media such as a CD or DVD

Unlike other migration solutions, PCmover transfers both conventional and specialized programs even if the PCs are running different operating systems.

With a failsafe "Undo" feature that allows users to roll back a migration at any point and full overwrite protection for the new system, PCmover is the safe and stress-free way to capture the functionality and personality of the old PC on the new model with a consumer-friendly and wizard-based approach.

A recent independent study conducted by Hebert Research concluded that PCmover had the potential to actually boost PC sales.

The study showed that more than 30% of the respondents who had previously used PCmover stated that they would purchase a new PC sooner if PCmover were included.

One of the first companies participating in this initiative is Intel, allowing customers who purchase select Intel dual-core processors through Ingram Micro to also buy PCmover at a substantial discount.

"We are excited about the opportunity to ease the migration of PC manufacturers and their customers to Intel dual-core processors," said Frank Raimondi, Intel's Strategic Channel Alliance Manager.

"Laplink's PCmover solution for PC migration addresses a key customer pain point and makes it easy for customers to migrate from their outdated PCs to high performance Intel Pentium D dual-core based PCs." Laplink will be partnering with a number of North American PC manufacturers to make PCmover readily available to their customers by pre-installing the software on their PCs, or through a variety of special offers promoted and available to the consumer directly from the PC desktop.

"PC manufacturers and retailers are now aware that home and business consumers alike are delaying new PC purchases because of the perceived risk and difficulty involved in manually moving files, settings, and programs to the new PC.

PCmover eliminates this sales barrier," said Mark Chestnut, Laplink's SVP, Corporate Sales and Development.

Chestnut, former Microsoft Senior Director for OEM Business Development, continued, "We are glad to see that Intel recognizes the value that PCmover brings and has chosen to work with Laplink in offering their channel customers an enhanced migration experience." The PCmover promotion for Intel customers is being offered exclusively to authorized resellers purchasing through Ingram Micro by April 22, 2006.
