Remote PLC connection
Remote PLC connection can give your business a competitive edge.
The ability to create a remote connection to equipment can provide great savings in terms of both time and money for many businesses, but where the equipment is maintained for a third party it can also vastly improve customer service If you are looking to offer a real difference to your customers, such as real time controlling and monitoring, or the ability to update software and even fault find, irrespective of where the equipment is located, remote monitoring can give you that competitive edge

When looking at specifying industrial equipment for your remote monitoring application, do you know which products work best together and are most straightforward to install, or do you leave it to chance? With expert advice and over 29 years experience in Industrial Automation and Control LC Automation can advise you on the best products for your application and help you install them correctly - first time! Does your current distributor offer that level of service? Westermo Modems can be used with any PLC, but as LC Automation are the UK's largest supplier of Mitsubishi Electric PLC's, it's no surprise that we are especially knowledgeable about linking Mitsubishi A-Series, FX and Q-Series PLC's to Westermo Modems for remote monitoring or alarm reporting.
In fact we have a range of application notes available to download from our website giving all the information you need to select and install a Westermo modem with your PLC.
One of the most popular downloads is an application example showing all the connection information for a Mitsubishi Q-Series PLC and a Westermo GD-10 GSM Modem.
It's a cost effective solution where fixed lined telephone cables aren't readily available, but still gives the option of full GX IEC Developer functionality to upload, download, monitor or edit the PLC settings as required.
Our application notes give all the best methods of connecting your GD-10 modem, using GX IEC Developer, E-Series HMI and RS232 card.
So whatever your chosen method, you can quickly find the connection details, software setup and technical tips you need for a quick and easy installation.
A GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) modem can be used to link PLC's, data loggers, security and surveillance systems, offering a natural and easy platform for wireless automation that is more flexible than traditional radio modems.
With the ability to call pre-set numbers or send/receive SMS-messages the GSM-modem is ideal for alarm monitoring and remote diagnostics for unmanned stations.
The Westermo GSM-modem can communicate with other GSM-modems, traditional analogue modem and ISDN-adapters.
Wireless data communication over a GSM network can be used instead of normal wirebound communication in several industrial applications.
There are many benefits of wireless applications, such as the reduced cost of installation, but GSM networks also offer other important benefits.
The data transfer service is just one of many that could be used in a lot of different applications.
The Westermo GD-01 modem has been designed for use in industrial applications and has several features that are normally not present on standard GSM modems, providing a reliable data communication link.
The GD-01 is a DIN-rail mounted modem with RS-232 interface in either a 9-pin D-sub or in a 5-pin screw connector.
* Dual band GSM 900/1800Mhz.
* GPRS.
* Serial interface RS-232.
* D-sub or screw connection.
* 160 characters SMS.
* DTR-dialling.
* 12-36 V DC Power supply.
* Din-Rail mountable.
* LED indicators.
The GD-01 modem provides RS-232/V.24 up to 9 600 bit/s connections over GSM networks.
It can be used instead of serial cable to link PLC's, data loggers, security and surveillance system or for data acquisition.
It is possibility to have an external signal (DTR) to trigger the modem to call a pre-set number.
This makes it ideal for alarm monitoring and remote diagnostics from unmanned stations.
It is also possible to send/receive SMS-messages up to 160 characters as well as fax functions.
It can communicate with other GSM-modems but also traditional analogue modem such as TD-32 or ISDN-adapters like ID-90.
All configuration is made by AT-commands similar to standard analogue PSTN modems.
The GS-01 uses the standardised GSM network on 900/1 800 MHz.
This makes it possible for world wide use (not U.S.A.).
The housing is profiled aluminium and has been designed to be easy to use and simple to install.
