In January this year, Leeds Bronze completed a working replica 1813 cannon to be fired during the Queen's 80th birthday celebrations Originally produced as a casting, the replica 4ft long, 2 1/2" bore, cannon was machined from stock tube by this specialist bronze manufacturer, normally associated with the manufacture of precision bronze bearings and bushes
Further orders for ceremonial cannons are to follow.
Leeds Bronze was commissioned to machine the item from stock tube by Lt Col Simon West of the Royal Military College of Science Shrivenham, who realised that casting the replica cannon, would not be the most cost effective method.
