FC Thompson Valves, the specialist flow and pressure control manufacturer, has re-stated its confidence for the accuracy and reliability of a Hewa indexing chuck for valve body workholding.

FC Thompson Valves, the specialist flow and pressure control manufacturer, has re-stated its confidence for the accuracy and reliability of a Hewa indexing chuck for valve body workholding by ordering a second, replacement 220 mm diameter two-jaw chuck from exclusive UK agent, Leader Chuck Systems Based in Poole, Dorset, FC Thompson Valves designs and manufactures a wide range of valves for customers in the aerospace, offshore and nuclear industries, for example

According to production engineering manager, Richard Tooze, the existing Hewa chuck had served the company well for the past 12 years.

So, when the time came to replace it, "there was no question about seeking an alternative".

He continues: "We have been machining the valve bodies, which start life as castings and forgings, for many years using a tried and trusted turning process.

When we decided to replace our existing Hewa chuck, any change to the manufacturing process was out of the question because we have been perfectly happy with the consistency of workholding and the volume of output." Leader Chuck Systems supplies a wide range of Hewa chucks in diameters from 125 mm up to 500 mm.

Purposely-designed for holding valve bodies and similar fittings, the chucks feature interchangeable indexing plates (usual divisions are four x 90deg) and they boast an indexing accuracy of +/- 2sec of arc.

In fact, such is the proven longevity and consistency of the Hewa chuck at FC Thompson Valves that Richard Tooze admits that the 12-year-old chuck will occasionally brought back into action to accommodate sudden increases in production!.
