A series of low-cost soft jaw boring discs will save lathe users the time, money and hassle of producing chuck jaw 'slugs' in-house to suit varying workpiece diameters.

Now available from workholding specialist Leader Chuck Systems is a series of low-cost soft jaw boring discs that will save lathe users the time, money and hassle of producing chuck jaw 'slugs' in-house to suit varying workpiece diameters.

The discs are provided in a total of six sets covering diameters from 10mm to 160mm and are 4mm and 6mm thick, depending on size.

They are available in 1mm diameter increments which, in the case of the most popular 10mm to 60mm diameter set, equates to 51 discs.

The low-cost package includes a simple tool that locates in a central threaded hole for inserting the disc, of the required diameter, easily in the open chuck.

The disc is then clamped mid-stroke and the jaws are machined appropriately.

Soft jaws can be used again and again by later selecting the next smaller size disc (-1mm) and re-boring existing jaws in situ.

This will greatly increase the life of your soft jaws.
