Trunnion-type 5-axis VMC cuts hard
materials
Trunnion table type vertical machining centre - aimed at the aerospace industry - also suits mould and die work and offers power for high torque machining of hard materials.
The new Mytrunnion 5-axis vertical machining centre from Kitamura was well received during the EMO 2005 exhibition in Hannover Primarily aimed at the aerospace industry, the MyTrunnion is also ideal for the mould and die and automotive sectors

Servo barfeed has under 3 min set-up time
Barfeed uses a fully electric servo driven magazine to provide fast and easy handling, which is demonstrated with its remarkable set-up times of less than three minutes.
The combination of features on the MyTrunnion results in an ultra high speed and precision machining performance for aluminium and composites, together with the power needed for high torque machining of titanium, inconel and other hard materials.
Currently available ex-stock from the UK distributor, Leader CNC Technologies of Nuneaton, the MyTrunnion guarantees a positional accuracy of +/-0.001mm and repeatability of +/-0.0005mm, achieved by using glass scale feedback and an induction scale system on all linear and rotary axes respectively.
The machine utilises fibre optic technology for high speed feedback resulting in high acceleration/deceleration.

Kitamura machining centres demonstrated
A 5-axis VMC combines ultra high precision, high speed machining performance and high torque cutting capability with a standard positional accuracy of +/-0.001mm.
With such attributes, it is no wonder the machine attracted so much attention at the EMO 2005 show.
The 50m/min high-speed rapid rates on the X and Y axes makes the MyTrunnion the fastest machine with box way construction on the market and the most rigid, the hardened boxways being coated with Turcite to absorb vibration.
The machine is also capable of achieving cutting feed rates of up to 24m/min on the linear axes, this combination of technologies making the MyTrunnion the perfect machine for aerospace applications where speed, accuracy and surface finish are paramount.
The bed, column and saddle are all made of the highest quality G50 Grade meehanite cast iron, with the table ground to a 15 micron finish.
The machine travel is fully supported in its X and Y axes to eliminate any table overhang and to ensure rigid and accurate machining, especially important on longer components.
The floor area is also extremely small for a machine with such a large machining envelope, space saving becoming more important as volumes increase in aerospace and more equipment is needed.
To achieve both high speeds and high torque, the MyTrunnion is fitted with Kitamura's 4 speed gear driven, dual contact 20,000 rev/min spindle.
Manufactured totally in-house and unrivalled by other manufacturers, it achieves efficient cutting performance with low energy consumption.
This enables the MyTrunnion to reach full power at 788 rev/min with an output maximum torque of 157.4Nm and reduces noise by more than 20% when compared with conventional spindle designs.
The standard dual contact spindle system offers greater machine rigidity, improved surface finish, higher cutting accuracy and extended cutting tool life.
Thermal distortion is eliminated by re-circulating spindle oil through a cooling unit to maintain a constant temperature of +/-3.6 deg F of room temperature.
A 50 tool, 40 taper ATC is standard with a fast tool change time of 2.5s.
Other standard features include ball screw cooling, through spindle coolant and a chip management system.
The MyTrunnion features a state of the art Kitamura-Fanuc 16iMB control.
Kitamura has packed this control with numerous high performance features ideal for high speed machining and management control.
The control comes with NURBS interpolation, A1 Nano contour control with 64 bit RISC processor and a 16MB Data Server - all features essential for controlling complex aerospace forms.
