Kitamura machining centres demonstrated
A 5-axis VMC combines ultra high precision, high speed machining performance and high torque cutting capability with a standard positional accuracy of +/-0.001mm.
Leader CNC Technologies exhibited a range of Kitamura machine tools at an Open House on the during November, 2005 at its facility in Nuneaton, UK.
The sole UK/Ireland Distributor for the highly innovative Japanese technology from Kitamura introduced five machine tools.
Since Leader CNC took on Kitamura in 2004, sales have progressively increased and existing users have been delighted with the after sales support.
On show was the exceptional new Mytrunnion 5-axis vertical machining centre.
The Mytrunnion combines ultra high precision, high speed machining performance and high torque cutting capability with a standard positional accuracy of +/-0.001mm with repeatability of +/-0.0005mm.
The capacity to machine complex parts 630mm in diameter by 500mm high on a machine with only a 11m2 footprint, yet weighing over 17 tonnes, is impressive.
Also on show was the Mycenter HX500i horizontal machining centre, weighing in at over 20 tonnes, its AC26kW gearbox driven spindle develops 380Nm of torque and offers the highest metal removal capability of any machine in the 50 taper class.
With its standard full rotary B axis pallet capable of indexing 90 deg in 0.45s and a tool to tool time of 2s for a 20kg tool, this machine undoubtedly gives long term performance and productivity second to none.
Another machine exhibited was a Kitamura Mycenter M-1XiF SP twin pallet vertical machining centre.
A similar machine exhibited at EMO 2005 was fitted with a thermally controlled 30,000 rev/min spindle developing 30Nm of torque up to 5,000 rev/min.
Aimed at the high speed machining and high accuracy markets with +/-0.002mm positional accuracy, the machine is guaranteed to be a success.
A truly significant machine on show at the Open House was the Mycenter HX250iF, the smallest in the range of horizontal machining centres - a Mycenter HX300iF was also there.
The Mycenter HX250iF has a 40 tool carousel with a tool to tool change time of 1.2s and a rapid feed rate of 48m/min.
With a spindle speed of 15,000 rev/min and a BT30 taper, this machine will prove to be one of the most competitive solutions on the market for the future, its cost similar to many twin pallet verticals used for volume production, but with more flexibility in multi-part loading.
