Over 150,000 people die from cardiac arrests in the UK every year In up to 85 per cent of cardiac arrests, the heart simply loses its rhythm, and by passing an electric shock through the heart from an automated external defibrillator (AED), the heart's rhythm can be restored, increasing the victim's chances of survival by up to 80 per cent
