Laerdal is introducing new silicone resuscitators

A Laerdal Medical product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Dec 5, 2003

Over the past 35 years, reusable Laerdal silicone resuscitators have been recognised for their quality, efficacy and value.

Laerdal is introducing the latest version of the popular Laerdal silicone resuscitator which has been designed to enhance convenience, ensure long-life and meet the needs of both the rescuer and the patient.

Introducing three new sizes to meet the volume delivery recommendations of the ILCOR Guidelines, the Laerdal silicone resuscitators are labeled as Adult (patients over 25kg), Paediatric (patients 2.5 to 25kg) and Preterm (patients under 2.5 kg) The transparent silicone material in the ventilation bag provides for quick bag re expansion in extreme temperatures and gives the rescuer an excellent feel for the patient's lung compliance.

The material also allows for easy identification of internal contaminants after use.

A new integrated intake/reservoir valve on all Laerdal silicone resuscitators is easy to disassemble for cleaning and the material allows for the use of several sterilisation and disinfectiion methods.

This new integrated valve will also allow for adequate use of ambient air in case of oxygen depletion.

In addition to the widely used Laerdal silicone mask that is featured with most Laerdal silicone resuscitators, a unique multi-function mask cover is now standard on all 3/4 and 4/5+ mask sizes.

The multi-function mask cover provides additional support to the silicone mask when faced with mask seal challenges.

The multi-function mask cover can also be used with Laerdal or standard head straps to fasten the mask to the patient's face for hands-free operation.

Also being featured as standard on both the Preterm and Paediatric models, a 35cm H2O pressure relief valve will replace the current 45cm H2O valve, which will be in accordance with the ILCOR Guidelines.

This new setting will help to reduce the risk of excessive ventilation pressure.

As always, the patient valve on all models will allow the spontaneous breathing patient to inhale oxygen with minimal resistance.

When used with the supplied oxygen reservoir bag, all models provide high oxygen concentration delivery, even at modest oxygen flow rates.
