Module provides PLC function for
inverters

High functionality, due to the programming software available, quick configuration and low cost feature a powerful and freely programmable module for inverter systems.

Lenze developed its Drive PLC, a powerful and freely programmable module, as the optimum solution to provide PLC control in inverter systems The key benefits of the Drive PLC are its high functionality due to the programming software available, quick configuration and its low cost in comparison to conventional PLC solutions

Lenze has been offering integrated PLC control for servo inverters for sometime, but to extend this facility the Drive PLC has been introduced as free standing module version for frequency inverters.

Its main purpose is to control machine motion but it is also capable of performing perform central control tasks.

The new Drive PLC is specifically designed to work inverter system and a number of basic functions are built-in for Drive PLC/inverter communication.

The basic characteristics of a small PLC are also inherent in the new Drive PLC, such as scalable inputs and outputs and fieldbus communication.

The Drive PLC has 512 inputs and outputs, analogue +/-10V inputs as well as for incremental encoders to monitor the motor position.

The Drive PLC communicates with the inverter via CANbus and uses a CAN interface for communication, removing the need for complex wiring.

The advantages being that there is no need for parallel wiring and no unused terminals.

Overall the result is a very fast signal processing and direct access to signals from the inverter.

The interfaces and libraries for communications with the drive are already fitted as standard, and the programming of the system takes place using the familiar PLC languages described by the international standard IEC 61131-3.

The Drive PLC is compact and economical, but without sacrificing performance.

With a program memory of 191kB and a processing time for one bit operation of 1.0 microsecond, control of highly dynamic processes is possible.

One typical application is tension control, processing signals of dancer position and roll diameter.

Working alongside an inverter such as the Lenze 8200 vector, this makes a low cost and compact solution.

Groups of inverters can be controlled by a Drive PLC such as might be found in automated material transport with either motorised conveyor units or overhead monorail systems.

Whilst communication within the group is by CAN system bus, the Drive PLC offers a choice of plug-in modules for higher communication, including PROFIBUS, DeviceNet and LON. Request a free brochure from Lenze ...
