Low cost servo systems replace variable drives
The availability of intelligent, low cost servo systems means that servo technology is being employed on machines which were once the preserve of mechanical or inverter variable speed drives.
Selections are fully documented with data on torques, inertias, service factors and thermal/mechanical limits.
This allows the Design Engineer to exactly match the drive to the load and achieve optimum machine performance.
Not every machine needs the small size and low backlash of planetary gearboxes.
Although Lenze offer planetary models with 6 arcmins of backlash, there is also a lower cost option of helical gearboxes where the backlash can be as low as 10 arcmins.
A new small helical gearbox has been added to the MC geared servo motor range with ratios from 2.5 to 60 and output torques up to 45Nm.
The choice of right-angle geared servo motors includes the high efficiency bevel and helical bevel models, also low cost helical worm.
Overall the MC range extends to torques up to 11600Nm.
For most applications with servo motors, gear ratios tend to be about 10 or less.
However for unusual requirements ratios of up to 1400 are possible.
Standard gearbox options include feet, flanges, hollow shafts, shrink discs and food compatible oils.
Options for the synchronous and asynchronous motors include either resolvers or encoders which can be incremental or absolute.
Permanent magnet holding brakes can be integrated.
Power and control connections are by plugs with optional cables or to a terminal box .
