IronCAD has an excellent application programming interface in which add-on utilites and sophisticated new commands can be written Iron Pro is a comprehensive set of useful add ons that has been written for Engineering and Woodworking applications

The Iron Pro commands are presented in a novel way in that they are simply icons in one of IronCAD's flyout catalogs.

To use the Iron Pro command, the user simply drags and drops the Iron Pro tool onto the part, or onto the modelling scene as appropriate, and the dialogs open guiding the user step by step through the task.

Tools include a comprehensive, user customisable range of engineering fasteners, a fully customisable Bill of Material, a custom drilling utility, and a clever utility which enables Parametric parts to be database driven with an automatic output to a custom bill of material.

This 'Proactive Part' tool can automate repetitive modelling applications such as cabinet manufacture where panel sizes can be automatically extracted.

There is an interesting utility which teaches parts how to automatically orientate themselves and attach themselves correctly to mating parts.

Iron Pro also contains several useful new IronCAD 'housekeeping' utilities such as timed automatic backup, a sheet border utility which automatically populates drawings with project data, a part finder and an assembly manager.
