Users expect more flexibility and a greater degree of control from their industrial and commercial machinery.

Users expect more flexibility and a greater degree of control from their industrial and commercial machinery This requires an increasing number of fractional horse-power (FHP) electric motors

Many of these motors are used with or incorporate electronic controls.

These include variable speed drives, motors with variable reluctance and synchronous motors with magnets.

Leroy Somer, with its manufacturing and design resources, extensive range of standard and adapted motors and access to electronic control systems, is perfectly positioned to meet these requirements.

The standard range of FHP motors (rated up to 1kW) is extensive and includes 2,4 and 6 pole single and three-phase asynchronous, together with three-phase multi-speed.

'Varmeca' motors are available with an integrated drive, enabling speed to be controlled locally by means of a built-in dial or remotely through a Profibus network connection.

Motors can also be supplied with reduction gearboxes to adapt the motor speed to that of the driven machine.

Other options include a variety of mounting arrangements and flange styles, as well as a choice of terminal box and cable gland positions.

For volume manufacturers, particularly those serving international markets, the most cost effective solution is often a standard motor adapted to suit a specific application.

Leroy Somer's FHP division has the resources and experience to design, engineer and manufacture special motors for a wide range of industrial and commercial purposes, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, pumps and compressors.

Computer-aided design and extensive application experience ensure the latest technologies are built into each motor, to provide a cost effective and energy efficient solution.

Product development times are short to match the trend towards shorter product life cycles, and modern 'just in time' production methods allow scheduled and 'ad hoc' requirements to be speedily met.

Leroy Somer is a major supplier of electric motors, alternators, gearboxes, variable speed drives and electronic control systems.

It has developed a full range of energy efficient motors complying with the CEMEP agreement efficiency ratings.

Fractional horse-power motors form an important part of this extensive range and over 6000 are manufactured every day at Leroy Somer's five French factories that make up the FHP group.

Over half of these are exported and the approximate breakdown of production is induction motors (75%), geared motors (13%) and DC motors (12%).

Whatever the requirement for a FHP motor, Leroy Somer will be able to supply a standard or adapted product to provide an efficient and reliable solution.
