Motors meet hazardous area ATEX 94/9/EC Directive
For engineers needing equipment for use in hazardous areas a range of motors up to 400kW are available in flameproof, increased safety, non-sparking and dust-proof versions.
Engineers needing equipment for use in hazardous areas will be pleased to hear about the new Leroy Somer range of motors.
With outputs from 0.18 to 400kW, they are available in Flameproof, Increased Safety, Non-sparking and Dust-Proof versions, all conforming to the ATEX 94/9/EC Directive.
From the 1 July 2003, it will be illegal for manufacturers to supply equipment for hazardous areas that does not comply with the ATEX regulations.
It is the responsibility of the user to select equipment that is suitably certified for use in the areas of the plant that they are needed for.
In the case of motors, the nameplate will give a host of relevant information.
As well as indicating EEx d for flameproof (or e for increased safety, n for non-sparking), it will show the gas groups it is suitable for and the temperature class.
LSPX and FLSPX motors are designed to operate in silos or other storage areas that can release flammable dust or in atmospheres where explosions can occur due to a mixture of air and dust.
They comply with the essential health and safety requirements in the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC.
Suitable for use in Zones 21 and 22, they are guaranteed dust-proof to IP65 with reinforced seals on endshields, frames, terminal boxes and shafts.
The guaranteed maximum surface temperature is 125degC.
A major benefit for engineers working with Silos or other dusty atmospheres is that they are also certified for use in these Zones with other Leroy Somer products such as brake motors, geared motors and variable speed drives.
The Leroy Somer FLSD(E) Flameproof motors are suitable for Zones 1 and 2.
Certified to EN 50 014 and EN 50 018, they satisfy the requirements for Groups Ex II 2 G(D) - EEx d(e) IIC T5 and temperature classes T1 (450degC) to T6 (85degC).
FLSE/LSE Increased Safety motors are also suitable for Zones 1 and 2.
Certified to EN 50 014 and EN 50 019 + VIK extension, they satisfy the requirements for Groups Ex II 2 G(D) - EEx e II T4 and Temperature Classes T1 (450degC) to T4 (135degC).
FLSN/LSN Non-sparking motors are suitable for Zone 2.
Certified to EN 50 014 and EN 50 021, they satisfy the requirements for Groups Ex II 3 G(D) - EEx nA II T3 and Temperature Classes T1 (450degC) to T3 (200degC).
All Leroy Somer EExe and EExn motors can be certified for use with a Leroy Somer variable speed drive.
With thermistors fitted, Leroy Somer EExd motors are suitable for use with all inverters.
Hazardous Areas, by definition, have never been places to experiment or take risks, but with the imminent introduction of the ATEX regulations, compliance is vital.
Trust Leroy Somer with its long experience of producing top quality electro-mechanical products to provide the safest solution for your company.
