CAD/CAM software meets woodworking needs

An Alphacam product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team May 21, 2007

A mdular CAD/CAM software makes it a suitable tool for all woodworking business business requirements from design and pricing through to full cutting lists and BOM for any bespoke job.

The portfolio of customers using the premier Cabinet Vision 'Screen to Machine' CAD/CAM solution for case work, is growing steadily in Ireland as designers and manufacturers realise the flexibility and accuracy of the program in producing individual pieces of quality bespoke furniture.

The modularity of Cabinet Vision software makes it a suitable tool for all business requirements from design and pricing through to full cutting lists and BOM for any bespoke job.

It is also possible to link the system directly with any CNC machine to manufacture individual components.

Providing a straightforward upgrade path, extra functionality can be added to Cabinet Vision at any time to meet changing requirements.

Seabury Furniture in Co Kildare, Ireland, has been using Cabinet Vision as its primary design software for the past five years in its high-end custom cabinet making and manufacturing operations.

"Cabinet Vision is the best and most capable design software that money can buy," explained director Donnie Purent.

"It saves us time, enables us to give our clients better service and gives them confidence and the opportunity to play a real part in the design stage of their projects." The CAD/CAM solution allows the whole business process to be controlled from the original concept through to CNC machining, at the touch of a button.

"One thing that's very important when you get into this level of sophistication is back-up and support.

The online users forum has a wealth of information posted in its many pages and it is monitored by Cabinet Vision technical support.

It also enables suggestions submitted by users to be applied to the enhancement of the package which is how software should be written, said Purent.

A-Flex F/F, based in Kilkee, County Clare, Ireland, has been using Cabinet Vision to design and manufacture kitchens and a range of other furniture items for the home, for about four months, and director Gerard Hennessy is already a confirmed advocate.

"The system not only speeds up the whole process but the superior graphics make it a real winner with our customers," he said.

"Having the ability to show them a 3D visual of how the finished item or room will look, also provides us with an excellent sales tool." Portlaois-based Cuddy's has switched all of its CNC machines to using Cabinet Vision over the past six months.

The company designs bespoke furniture and fitted kitchens and also supplies kitchen carcasses to trade customers and would not use any other system.

"We have used other systems in the past and certain elements of each of them work quite well," explained Declan Cuddy.

"The difference with Cabinet Vision is that it does everything we need it to.

It is very easy to learn, is the most practical system for nesting and quite simply, nothing else comes close." Launched in 1983, Cabinet Vision enables machine code to be produced in seconds; an entire project can be optimised and information sent directly to saws, machining centres and routers.
