Olympics saw big lift from UK supplier

A Lifting Solutions product story

Lifting Solutions was a major supplier of steel wire rope to the Olympic Games for its opening and closing ceremony - watched by millions if not billions of people around the globe.

Lifting Solutions of Barnsley has pulled off an amazing coup for Yorkshire and for Britain, being a major supplier of steel wire rope to the Olympic Games for its opening and closing ceremony - watched by millions if not billions of people around the globe.

Lifting Solutions supplied an incredible length of almost 25km of 7mm and 8mm diameter rope for the opening and closing showpiece events.

At one point during the rope's fabrication in Barnsley, European supplies of the appropriate diameters of steel wire rope were completely exhausted.

David Nixon, chain and rope division manager for Lifting Solutions, said: "This was a massive contract for Lifting Solutions and one on which we were delighted to support our long-standing client, Stage One Creative Services of Tockwith.

The rope was integral to the smooth running of the high profile opening and closing ceremonies, and it was truly a feather in our cap to supply such a prestigious project.

"We have been working on the contract for over two years, but we have not been able to tell anyone because of business confidentiality agreements.

Not being able to tell even our friends and family has been a nightmare, we're now all relieved we can talk about it in the open, and we're now looking forward to the next big one!" As well as producing the mammoth rope to extremely tight deadlines, Lifting Solutions also provided technical support to the Olympic project team.

The company is no stranger to high profile contracts, having previously supplied the Royal Family and Kew Gardens among other big names.
