Lifting Solutions has responded positively to news that London will host the 2012 Olympic Games, with a buoyant message that the UK's engineering sector is in good shape to support the event.

Lifting Solutions of Barnsley has responded very positively to news that London will host the 2012 Olympic Games, with a buoyant message to the organisers that the UK's engineering sector is in good shape to support the event Lifting Solutions is no stranger to Olympic projects, having supplied an incredible length of almost 25km of 7mm and 8mm diameter rope for the opening and closing ceremonies at Athens 2004

At one point during the rope's fabrication in Barnsley, European supplies of the appropriate diameters of steel wire rope were completely exhausted.

Lifting Solutions has, indeed, already played its part in helping secure the Games; the company supplied an enormous supporting structure of steel wire rope to hold up what is believed to be Europe's largest ever banner - for the IOC London 2012 Evaluation Committee visit to London last February.

The giant banner was erected on the roof of The Dome, covering 8200 square metres of the structure's roof, and is thought to be the largest building wrap ever constructed in Europe.

The company has supplied over 5km of steel wire rope in a range of diameters - 12mm, 16mm and 19mm.

Jonathan Moorhouse, managing director of Lifting Solutions, said: "It is fantastic that London has won the Olympics and we are ready to support the organisers or any of the major contractors in whatever way we can.

"We are now highly experienced in this type of project, which will hopefully stand us in good stead when the contracts are being awarded".
