Process Automation Within Reach Of Majority UK
The launch of the Lab-Manager process control computer system is set to bring process automation within the reach of the majority of laboratories, pilot plants and mini-production facilities.
It is ideal for food producers, restaurateurs, food purchasers and others who are concerned about the salt content of food for reasons of nutrition or quality control.
The ES-421 is able to analyse samples as small as 1.0ml using the conductivity principle.
A funnel-shaped sensor ensures the sample is in the correct position, then the user simply presses the Start/Off switch and the salt content - expressed as a percentage - is displayed in just a few seconds.
The instrument can either be used on a bench or held in the hand.
Measuring 17 x 9 x 4 cm and weighing 300g, the battery-powered instrument is small enough to put in a pocket and take to any location where instant readings are required.
Calibration is performed by pressing the Zero button while the sensor is exposed to air (span adjustment is generally not required), and cleaning the sensor cell requires nothing more than a wipe with a moistened tissue.
Compared with salt meters employing glass electrodes, the ES-421 is easier to use and maintain, and more robust.
-more- Measurement precision is +/-0.05% for salt concentrations of 0 to 1.00% and +/-5% for concentrations of 1.00 to 10.0%.
Samples with a salinity of greater than 10% can be diluted 10:1 with distilled water and the reading multiplied by 10 to give the true result.
Sample temperatures can range from 10 to 40 degrees C and the instrument incorporates automatic temperature compensation.
Labcell has the Atago ES-421 digital salt meter available for delivery from stock, and there is a new free brochure that gives more details.
