Pull-off fixture tests terminals' welds
Ideal for the automotive manufacturing industry, a dedicated weld pull-off fixture tests the strength of electrical terminals on power steering pump motors.
Ideal for the automotive manufacturing industry, Lloyd Instruments has now developed a dedicated sample grip to test the strength of electrical terminals on power steering pump motors.
The Terminal Weld Pull Off Fixture, one of two accessories designed specially for a leading vehicle component manufacturer, fits easily onto any Lloyd Instruments test machine in what is believed to be the first testing application of its kind.
Power steering pump motors are sophisticated designs with complex electronic terminal arrays.
In the past, checking the solder strength quality of terminal welds was time consuming and costly, but this has now been overcome through a fast, efficient process.
The fixture consists of a base plate and a secure sample clamping ring that rotates easily to test each terminal in turn.
The upper section acts like a mechanical finger to grip the terminal end firmly without slippage, up to a maximum 1kN force.
The advantage of this fixture is the precision engineering and robust build quality.
Flexible instrument control also comes from the company's NEXYGEN MT software.
This powerful, easy to use package features a vast test library, and strict multi-level user security and data audit trails for total traceability of all operations.
Other key features include 'video capture and playback', useful for training purposes and extends analysis capabilities as well as integrated drivers which provide a seamless control of Lloyd Instruments' test equipment in a LabVIEW platform.
The second special grip in this range, the Motor Can - Pull Off Fixture, is used to test the tensile strength of sealing welds on the outer casings of power steering pump motors.
Once again, this fixture is precision engineered to the highest possible standards and emphasises the company's commitment towards developing customised solutions to meet the specific needs of an application.
