A Finch device available from Lloyd instruments for loop tensile testing of wet paper or board products up to 25 mm or 50 mm width.

Testing the tensile strength of wet paper is an important requirement in the development of paper products such as paper towels, kitchen roll, tissue etc A Finch Device available from Lloyd instruments for loop tensile testing of wet paper or board products up to 25 mm or 50 mm width

Compatible with Lloyd Instruments' universal materials testing instruments, this fixture is designed to test the tensile characteristics of paper products after a short soaking period to help avoid the difficulties encountered when testing wet specimens having very low strength.

With a capacity of 500N, the fixture is ideally suited for use with the LFPlus single column testing machine.

The device consists of a water bath, a pin fitting and an upper self-tightening eccentric roller grip.

The paper sample is looped under the pin inside the bath and both ends of the sample are secured in the upper grip.

Water is then added to the bath to fully immerse the looped end of the sample.

The upper grip is then driven upwards until the paper sample fails in tension.

Wet tensile strength is defined as the maximum force that a test specimen will withstand, after soaking in water, before it breaks under specified conditions.

Wet strength retention is defined as the ratio of the value of the tensile strength of a paper or board in the wet state to that of the same specimen in the dry state, under specified conditions.

The fixture complies fully with a number of standards for tensile testing on wet paper.

These are: TAPPI T456 om-87, ASTM D 829, ISO 3781-1983, EN12625-5 and BS2922 Part 2:1984.

By adding Lloyd Instruments' versatile Nexygen MT data analysis software, the user can analyse paper strength and elongation.
